What I didnt recognize at first was that on the third time, my username was auto-filled. I've never tried this but I suspect it will prevent pushing/pulling from Sourcetree but you might need to switch to the command line when you do actually want to enter credentials and push to the remote. The credentials prompt would always come up 3 times. I've tried to delete the credentials from Sourcetree options, tried delete the credentials from the Windows' control panel, tried to create an app password, tried to reset the password of my Atlassian ID, tried to upgrade GIT, tried to downgrade Sourcetree (from the actual 2.6.10. Go to Repository > Repository Settings, selecting my repository, and changing the username from my old Bitbucket username to my Atlassian account's email. I have changed my password twice and on logging in, it shows me the following error: git -c diff.mnemonicprefixfalse -c core.quotepathfalse -no-optional-locks push -v -tags origin master:master Logon failed, use ctrl+c to cancel basic credential prompt. Look for entries that start with 'git:http' and include your server name and/or user name and remove them. When I try to push my changes in sourcetree, it gives me a a popup for Bitbucket login. but Sourcetree expects the standard git credential manager to be in place and working to manage the credentials. Since about 2 weeks, I can't push anything to my Bitbucket repos. This shows your stored Windows credentials. I get: git -c diff.mnemonicprefixfalse -c core. Now I am trying to push them and it wont do it. This potentially would prevent caching and mean the use is prompted everytime. I started working on a previous repo and to begin with I was amazed that installing Sourcetree seemed to just work- once I opened the repo it noticed all the changes Id made. If credential.helper is configured to the empty string, this resets the helper list to empty (so you may override a helper set by a lower-priority config file by configuring the empty-string helper, followed by whatever set of helpers you would like). If you are using private repos anyone trying to push will be prompted for valid credentials, but by default Git will cache those credentials for use the next time. Starting again source tree, going to clone, and prompted me for password. Fix: Users need to enter their username and password into the pop-up offered. Before cloning or adding any repository, define your username and password in username. SourceTree or GitHub Desktop, to pull data from your Bitbucket repository. If you delete any Accounts in Tools/Options/Authentication then Sourcetree will not be able to list remote repos on Bitbucket. Output: Error: fatal: Authentication failed for Issue was solved for me as described upper with: going into path C:UsersUSERNAMEAppDataLocalAtlassianSourceTree and removing the passwd file. Couple of solutions can help in resolving the issue with username. I'm assuming this is Sourcetree for Windows and that Sourcetree does not provide the kind of fine grained control you are looking for.
